Kick'n it East Village

American Apparel ®
183 E. Houston St. (between Allen & Orchard)
(212) 597-4600
http://www.americanapparel.net/

If you’ve ever walked past the American Apparel ® on E Houston Street in NYC’s East Village, you’d notice the hipster clan gathered outside smoking stoges, eating Mr. Softy ice cream, or simply kick’n it on the benches outside this International Cotton Shop.

This uber “Made in America” establishment is usually open till 11PM on weekdays and as late as midnight on the weekend. There is no bar or kitchen, rather super cute employees (sporting 100% American Apparel ®) and what sounds like a live DJ is probably one of the employees’ iPod!

This past Saturday night, while en route to Keith McNally’s Pulino up the street on the corner of Houston & Bowery, I couldn’t help but notice the young skinny boys hiding behind their American Apparel ® “Legalize Gay” t-shirts (http://store.americanapparel.net/2001lg.html), 2001LG Legalize Gay T-Shirt $17.00. I asked one of the pretty boys “hey man, what’s going on inside?!”
He answered, “buy one get one…you know…for your friend or partner?”
He smiled at me through his big green eyes and bright teal Legalize Gay T-shirt…I smiled back and walked in…

Tribe Called Quest was blaring through the store speakers and I was instantly in a good mood. I felt so downtown…I can’t really explain the feelings…but having my primary residence in the heart (or armpit) of the East Village, I simply FELT 'downtown' from the inside out.

Walking around the store, I noticed that every item is accompanied by a picture of it on a model.
**Note: all American Apparel ®models are employees of the store…there is no modeling agency American Apparel ® hires for their marketing campaign.**

Because I absolutely LOVED what I saw and embraced my downtown feeling in my stomach…I figured, why not promote American Apparel ®on Kicknitnyc.blogspot.com?!!

I approached the pretty (young) salesgirls and told them about my blog. I asked them if I could promote the store and write about my experience. I also told them that I would link all the top selling items for Summer 2010 to their website!

Kick'n it Meat Packing

If you were out on Sat in Meat Packing and you're on this distribution list...please email me your pictures!
Whether we were kickn it together or not...send your photos and tell me where they were taken...

From fancy champagne & ill beats, to cute waiters & french boys, to birthday girls and birthday cake...I would have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with this past Saturday's outcome @ Bagatelle...considering Meat Packing on a Saturday night is not where you'd normally find us...we managed to pull it off well..REALLY WELL!

Thank you Bistro Bagatelle & RDV (13th Entertainment) for your hospitality & The Boys Entertainment for making any venue possible!!

Happy Birthday LeLe, this one's going to be a good one...

juicy review coming soon to Kickn' it NYC...check out BOTH blogs

Kick'n it NYC & Kickn'n it RAIN OR SHINE...

“The near right corner please…” I was a little annoyed I told the cabby to take Washington instead of Hudson. I wanted him to pull up in front of Bistro Bagatelle (www.bistrotbagatelle.com) since walking in 6 inch Jimmy Choos on cobblestone streets in NYC’s infamous meatpacking district (without falling flat on your face) was nearly impossible.
As I got out of the cab, I grabbed the birthday presents and did a once-over making sure I didn’t leave or drop anything on my way out (we’d be here forever if I’d blog about every time I’ve lost something in a NYC taxi)…I tried my best not to look too stupid walking trying to avoid the gaps in between the cobblestones so I don’t fall and break my face or nick my python heels.
We were getting together for a fabulous birthday I helped arrange for a close friend of mine. I was excited to be dressed up and out in Meat Packing on a Saturday night! A slight change from my usual Lower East Side Nike dunks, American Apparel attire. It was approximately 10:45pm and I arrived early (wow, how did that happen?? I have no idea).

I pulled up to the front of the crowd, “ciao darling…you look stunning! Twice in one week already?” Philip, the door manager teased me since I had a post Bikram late night rendezvous with girlfriends @ Bagatelle 3 nights earlier… “I am here for a birthday dinner tonight darling…I’m early!” I winked at Philip and made my way into the restaurant.Bagatelle partners, Aymeric Clemente (best known for the UES’s Le Bilbouquet), and luxury branding & PR king Remi Laba had a vision of bringing the South of France to New York’s Meat Packing district…and they did just that! The only thing missing from this Cote d ‘Azure party was the beach, the bikinis, and the Saudi oil money.

I walked into a dimly lit room where the DJ was spinning French house music and the ladies dancing table top in their designer stilettos and slick back ponytails.
“Bagatelle (from the Château de Bagatelle) is an indoor table game related to billiards…The game bagatelle evolved from efforts to bring outdoor games, such as croquet and shuffleboard, inside and atop tables…”

I scanned the room for our table of 9 and realized they gave us the corner booth under the Elizabeth Taylor silk screen…you know… (The one they give celebs & page six regulars)…I felt cool ;-)

The restaurant was crowded and every table was sold out, with the average party of 6-8 ppl. I followed the Maître D through the obnoxiously beautiful clan of people gathered by the bar to our table in the corner. I noticed four extremely tall, extremely beautiful, extremely well groomed and attractive men standing together by our end of the bar…before I reached our table, I couldn’t help but open my big mouth and ask one of them (whose name I can’t remember), if he was a soccer player. He looked at me and smiled and replied, “Rugby…we are rugby players…we are here from France!”

I nearly fainted…well…not really…he had no clue since I pretended it was nice to meet him and bid him farewell…

I sat solo in our corner booth patiently waiting for the guest of honor (the birthday girl) and friends to arrive.
The Maître D noticed me sitting alone and quickly brought over a glass a of champagne with a floating strawberry…I made friends with our waiter Nate and gave him the scoop of who’s birthday it was and why we were there.
The DJ was spinning a mix of Fat Boy Slim, Claude Challe, and perhaps maybe some Brazilian House (which is one of my all time favorites). For the most part…there usually more beautiful women that are surrounded by fewer good looking men. Tonight, however, at Bistro Bagatelle it was an equal ratio. The men sported linen shirts and man cleavage paired with a tailored sports jacket and possibly a gold watch…and the women were simply breathtaking.
I sipped my champagne and ate my strawberry…I glanced down at the time…it was 11:07PM…the birthday girl had arrived!

Follow us from appetizers & champagne, to birthday Sundays & shake’n it on the tables…from Bistro Bagatelle to RDV (rendezvous lounge next door)…the night is young and so are we…

More to follow...
