PELOTON: Indoor Cycling

Come rock out at PELOTON, Brooklyn's full-body indoor cycling workout!!
This Thursday, May 30th, at 8pm I will be leading the pack through 45 minutes of an intense CARDIO workout with high-energy music.
We'll be riding through hills and valleys, dropping beats and creating our own sanctuary where we can clear our minds and be free!!

What Happens Online, Stays Online


Last night I went to an Israeli Independence Day party at Marquee. The highlight of my night was dancing to DJ Nadav Vee's off the charts house music and seeing the Israeli flag waved around a dance floor!

There were all different kinds of characters showing their love for the amazing state of Israel. Mostly single folks looking to have a good time and hopefully going home with someone and if not someone, then at least a phone number or new Facebook friend or more twitter followers.

I definitely had a chance to catch up with old friends who I (literally) haven't seen in years...funny how they all asked, "so...what's new? How’s life? Dating anyone?” I kind of sounded like a broken record, “things are great! Nothing new…what’s good with you?”—avoiding the “are you dating anyone?” part of the question.  The back and forth of easy surface conversation was actually all I could have handled last night.



But since we’re on the topic of ‘dating,’ why don’t we talk about the guys who have reached out to me JDate (Jewish Singles Dating Site) pretending to not know me last night. Yes. There were at least two JDate "matches" at the party last night I wanted to introduce myself to but neither one of them actually had the nerve to face me (I wonder). I was just going to say hello. It’s not like I was going to “call you out” on being on a Jewish dating site and make fun of you and tell everyone at the party, “hey guys!!! Look here…I met this guy online!!!”

So now whatever happens online stays online?? I must have missed that memo.

Where Are All the NJB's At??

I just spent 30 minutes checking out the 'competition' on JDate (online dating site for Jewish singles), 25-35 year old single Jewish girls in the NYC area. No, this doesn't make me crazy, just curious and able to admit it. It also makes me realize how many amazing, smart, eligible, pretty girls there are out there and for every great girl, I shake my head in disgust and want to kick the idiot who didn't hang on to that great girl!

What gives? Where are all the eligible men at? Why are there so many awesome girls on this dating site and so few men? Is there something wrong with this picture?
Finding a Nice Jewish Boy (NJB) on a dating site is very easy...that's only 1/2 the battle. The other half is finding one that's tall enough, confident enough, smart enough and not afraid of us amazing New York women. And sometimes, that's not even enough. The most important ingredient is, CHEMISTRY. I have been on countless dates with all different NJBs and no matter how "cute" your profile is, we can't fight the fact that sometimes there's just no chemistry; the invisible mutual urge to want to say out loud, "kiss me you fool!"

Running on the beach in North Africa!!


In Morocco, it is not customary for a woman to 'lay out' in her bathing suite and soak in the sun. In fact, there were not women on the beach that day, only boys and men playing soccer along the North African coast. Every morning I would have to wait for one of the guards at the home I was staying at, to escort me through the Casablanca city streets and through our jogging path, not because it wasn't safe, but because women simply didn't walk the streets of Casablanca alone. They were either in a group of women or escorted by a man.

Needless to say, my morning runs were nothing but challenging. My guard just happened to be a soccer player himself. Adile, an attractive, 30-something year old, friendly Muslim who made fun of my pace and rosy cheeks every time he told me to pick up my speed! You know how they say in fitness magazines to find a workout buddy because then you'd have to show up to the gym, not to let them down? I couldn't embarrass myself by not being able keep up with him, especially since I was one of the only females on the beach running among a sea of men.

Ski Deer Valley

Deer Valley Ski Resort is unparalleled to any other winter destination I have ever traveled to, including Interlaken, Switzerland. As the Corporate Events Coordinator for my firm, I managed our annual ski trip to Park City, Utah, where approximately 70-75 of our top investors, senior executives, board members were hosted at the St. Regis Deer Valley for a weekend of supreme luxury and top notch skiing.



At first, I knew nothing about skiing and what a holiday weekend of such would entail. The St. Regis Deer Valley is Ski In Ski Out which means you practically roll out of bed into your skis (that are pre-warmed and stored for you by the St. Regis), onto the mountain and off you go! From the time I arrived on Wednesday, January 11th to the time I (sadly) left on Monday January 17th 2012, I was a beginner ski school graduate and Deer Valley’s # 1 fan. The views from the top of the mountain were breathtaking (scroll down or click on the Deer Valley homepage to see "photos of the day). I wouldn’t be the only one to think so highly of Deer Valley…seems to me I’ve been behind the ball on this one…

America...

Walking home from Meat Packing (14th & 9th) last night at 11:45pm, I walked by one of those cheapie accessories store that sells just about everything made in China by the rainbow load.
I purchased yet another slouchy heather knit hat for $9.99 and 7 bangles for $1.99 EACH. Who will know the difference if you wear it right? NO ONE...exactly my point.

It's funny how I bargained for a major price on my new collection of enamel and silver bangles from "Barney's" yet found myself appalled at the overpriced strawberries two blocks down, at Whole Foods.

I don't get it...shouldn't locally grown stuff be cheaper?? Shouldn't we be promoting "made in the US"??
I wonder how my "made in china" $1.99 bangles cost less.

IMUZE...Wear Your Mind


Charles Bitton is hard to miss in a crowd. An attractive gentleman in his early 30s, he sports a well trimmed Dali stache that accentuates his dark eyes and complements the fitted light colored suits and vintage scarves that he favors. Ten years ago, this Brooklyn native – then partner of a boutique NY based marketing firm- would have never dreamt of building his own brand and resurrecting an unfinished dream, all of which is happening right now in a studio parked on Kol Israel Haverim Street, in Neve Tzedek, one of Israel’s most influential art and design districts.
It’s late spring in Tel Aviv, the clock strikes 17:00 hours and Charles Bitton is hustling to meet his deadlines…proposals, contracts, designs, sketches, patters, samples, photo shoots, look books, fabric, and media kits to name a few. While Charles is pinching for time, I rush to set up my laptop and interview questions on Avenue A, NYC, (about 5,683 miles (9146 km) away from Charles's Neve Tzedek studio).
I set up an interview with Charles after joining his network on facebook. Facebook pictures tell me he’s a good-looking musician with Brooklyn roots, who now spends most of his time in Tel Aviv and living THE LIFE…http://www.hippush.com/ tell me he’s an entrepreneur pursuing his dream in Tel Aviv…I am instantly intrigued and need to know more about Charles. I am drawn to Charles's incredible ability to sketch. I like his style. He seems a little odd which I relate to completely. Is Charles's on the outside looking in, as I am? I don’t know and I want to find out. I want to know why he moved to Israel…I mean, that’s MY DREAM and he’s practically living it…Charles inspires me.
I rest my blackberry on my desk and set it to speaker…expecting my call, Charles answers with a friendly hello and we instantly start to chat.
KICK’N IT NYC: So Charlie…before we start the interview, you must tell me…Israeli? American? French? Where are you from?
CHARLES BITTON: Haha…I’m from Brooklyn, a Native New Yorker Yael.
KNYC:  So what’s a New Yorker like you doing in Neve Tzedek? You know, you’re living my dream Charlie.
BITTON: Well, I was an art director in New York City for six years before coming to Israel. Hippush started here, in Tel Aviv.
KNYC: Am I pronouncing it right? Like the word Hip? Push?
BITTON: Actually, it’s pronounced hee-poosh.
"It’s inspired by the Hebrew word “to search.” It defines me as an artist; constantly searching for inspiration…music is my passion…any form of expression is something I go for. I’d like to think of myself as a well rounded artist…everything I do is self taught."

KNYC: How did you get into this?
BITTON: About eight years ago advertising was knocking at my door. I guess I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. I was offered to be a partner in a marketing/advertising company. So I took it!
KNYC: And??
BITTON: I learned a lot of the business side of things and was quite successful. But I felt like I was losing my identity…the whole thing is a narrow venture that you have to adhere to. So I started IMUZE in 2006. It’s not new…I sold 2 seasons of IMUZE at Gallery Lafayette in Paris (it’s like Paris’s Bloomingdales). IMUZE did very well…
KNYC: What did it feel like to see your work at Gallery Lafayette?
BITTON: I saw a few t shirts left hanging around and when I asked the sales girl about the rest of the collection, she said that they were sold out! I broke even and as amazing as it was, I still needed to make an income. I had no choice but to put IMUZE on the back burner. So I went back to the agency and put IMUZE behind me. I was working 18 hours a day, jumping from one project to the next, constantly meeting deadlines with no room for air.
"We were a young business so it was deliver or die. I was working like a horse. I sometimes felt like I sold my soul to the devil…I needed to get out and find myself. I refused to get lost in ‘the system.’ So I did the unthinkable…I took the leap. I moved to Israel!"-Charles Bitton
KNYC: That’s insane! I wish I had the balls to do that…
BITTON: I’ve always wanted to move to Israel and felt, if not now, then when? So I started hippush last year. It is a range of everything I’ve been involved in; print, web; I touch on the different outlet’s…we are a little bit of everything. A Jack of all trades.
KNYC: So now that you’re living in Tel Aviv and managed to escape the Corporate American ‘dream,’ what about survival? Income? 
BITTON: So far so good.  I’m only 6 months into IMUZE. It’s not like I deserve a victory flag. My bread & butter is hippush which is more freelance work. It’s my agency experience tied into my creative side of music, art and design.
KNYC: What about IMUZE? Are you working on a new collection?
BITTON: I met up with a designer from Milan. She remembered IMUZE from our first collections in 2006. It’s really becoming something different from its original form…it’s a full collection now. Not just T shirts. I pitched a story I felt compelled to tell…I have to say something through fashion.
KNYC: Isn’t that essentially what fashion is though? What’s your story? How is IMUZE different?
BITTON: Collaborating with artists and designers from different parts of the world to create one collection, Yael.

Everyone pitches in! Our Knitwear designing team is from Greece. Our hand bags are made in Israel and are made out of canvas from the Indian military. At the base, there’s me and the designer in Milan. Everything is made by hand…very old fashioned, authentic, and high quality. IMUZE is against the whole mass production, assembly line thing.
KNYC: Yeah…it’s so not personal. So your customers basically are an extension of the story you’re telling? They’re the delivery of your message they too believe in. I like that.
BITTON: Our customer may not the most affluent but is someone who is willing to invest in something that is made by hand…there is a story to what you’re wearing. IMUZE hangtags will have the creator’s inspiration with a personal note. We believe in fare trade and therefore pass on a fair price to our customer. Our message and our label mean something to our customers; our planet means something to them. The IMUZE customer is hip and fashion conscious. Our customers are in their 20’s and 30’s…they’re free thinkers! When you wear IMUZE, it will resonate with you…You Are What You Wear.

KNYC: We are what we wear…literally. It’s our identity and essentially who we are. Where we’re going and where we came from.
BITTON:The Circus of Life” is the name of the collection. IMUZE is serious and playful at the same time…the whole attitude of the collection is about not taking yourself too seriously
KNYC: So if everything is made by hand, what happens if demand succeeds production?
BITTON: If Barneys New York were to order a few hundred of pieces of each model, we would have to diversify our labs in order to increase production and deliver…but at a certain point, it’s not about the mass production there is a limitation to our production… as we speak we are in development. We are hoping to launch our men’s and women’s collection September 2011. The collection will launch in September with sales online. We are going to have a presale for our core fans on facebook.
We are going to be in stores in the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. We already have a sales force in Milan, Paris, Tel Aviv and I’m working on New York. We are going to have to be selective as to where the collections will go.
KNYC: So what next for Charles Bitton?
BITTON: Ulpan (Hebrew Language School)! That’s what’s next...haha. I want to launch IMUZE off the ground. I want to find the time to write and perform. For now I really feel my whole heart is in IMUZE and I just got ‘a get it out of me.
Once I tell the story…the next story may come…or, it may not.

Why Men Love Women...Sports Illustrated Style!

Since 1996, freshman year @ Hewlett High School, my bff at the time, Meri Brenowitz, now Meri Zwirn taught me that other than the September issue of Vogue, the next best issue is Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Edition...and that was the end of that...from 1996 and on, I've been collecting beautiful tiny bikinis of beautiful women from all over the world.
Granted through history women have always been idolized for their beauty, but from cover girl, Irina Shyak to Kenza Fourati...This Why Men love Women.
I totally get it...and love my girls in this year's Sports Illustrated 2011. They look incredible.

V Day Love...

Monday night...February 14th 8:57pm

So there you have it...blogging at the prime romance hour of the prime romantic Hallmark day of the year...and YES! I actually did Tweet Bethenny Frankel from the bathroom of The Four Seasons Restaurant announcing that I was in fact sipping on a fine Veuve Clicquot champagne and that I would follow in her footsteps since her wedding to Jason Hoppy was televised last March in the pool room of The Four Seasons. In fact, I may have called her "Skinnygirl" because I wasn't too sure how to spell her name...regardless, I spent the next 30 minutes back at the bar checking my phone for Bethenny's tweet (because that's normal!??!)

I mean, really...Yael! It's lover's day...no one's tweeting you back about finally making it to oysters and champagne at The Four Seasons.

Walking up the stairs to the main bar area I hear Julian say, "Laura...Ciao...long time no see...how are you beautiful?!"

Julian Niccolini is the one of the managing partners of the Four Seasons Restaurant.  Laura knows the some of "the guys" (as she calls'em) at The Four Seasons well for many years through work functions, charities, and simply being part of the NYC's Midtown finance social network...It was time for me to stop feeling flustered and grow up...this is Manhattan!

Backtrack...so I've already typed up this whole official entry to post about Valentines day...it started with one of those, "if you're attached, you're celebrating lover's day....if you're not committed...you're obviously celebrating singles' awareness day talking smack about ex boyfriends or girlfriends and all the while trying to remain positive even though you really can't believe some of the words that are flying out of your mouth"
OK on to the serious business....WHO was St. Valentine? I mean...I get it...Santa is to Christmas as SaintValentine is to Valentines Day?
Well...according to some Catholic sources and The Inernet, I have to tell you that I was a bit disappointed when I discovered who Saint Valentine actually was.

So it goes like this...

Saint or Saint(s) Valentine(s) were actually a group of priests and martyrs...yup! MARTYRS...like Bin Laden? or more like Napoleon? hmmm...they persecuted anyone who was anti-Christ or went against the beliefs of the Church...they basically went out and KILLED anyone who was against the Catholic church (true story I guess)....

They were so dedicated to their GD, that while fighting off these so called "pagans" and "non believers" they fell in battle.  It was then said to be that the Saints died for the LOVE of GD...hmmm...

After many years...at some (random) point...or about 1700 years ago, people used to buy each other chocolates and flowers to celebrate the 14th of February...oh...yes...I totally forgot to mention that AFTER St. Valentine and his team of martyrs died for the Love of GD, there was a feast in honor of all of their dedication to loving GD and persecuting anyone who didn't believe what they believed...This feast was called the Feast of St. Valentine. It just so happened to be held on the 14th of February...fast-forward...


Love of GD...love for one another = chocolates, flowers, romance, United States of America, Hallmark, business, forced cheesy love holiday, $$$$$ (why didn't I think of that)???

Do I sound bitter? I hope I don't...Even when I was committed I never celebrated V Day. I just thought it was so colored...so painted...fake.

But, then again...it IS a holiday celebrating the most holy and sacred emotion and phenomenon...LOVE!
At the end of the day, it's the BEST HOLIDAY EVER...when do we celebrate love in the masses?
unfortunately not enough.

The bar at the Four Seasons was nice and crowded with singles and committeds.

Julian approached Laura and I and introduced us to Michael and Alexander. Michael: an attractive Lebanese gentleman, sporting his own luxury label (suite, tie, suspenders, the works), was worldly, successful and a well spoken. Michael was accompanied by Alexander, the tall, thin, attractive Gotham Magazine reporter who was writing a piece on this Lebanese fashion 'mogul.' Alexander and I would have to probably share more stories about living on the Lower East Side and jet setting from the west side to the east side of Manhattan.  Alexander: musician & songwriter at heart, bad ass reporter by day. GD I LOVE NEW YORK!!

I was called out on wearing my black rubber swatch watch but then quickly made up for it with my McQueen scull scarf! Although I wasn't gulping down oysters on ice (not a Shellfish or Pork Kind'a Gal) and sipping on Veuve, I realized how much love there actually is out there.

I excused myself from my party only to go home and blog about it and now I'm on my way out to my next party....La Vie on 1st between 1st & 2nd...a Jet Set Moroccan party on the LES...If my new bangs,
Derek Lamb frames, and Giuseppe oxfords don't get'em....maybe St. Valentine will watch over my love luck and make my romantic dreams come true.

WHAT HE WANTS, WHAT SHE WANTS...



As a single white female living in New York, it's very easy to rack up a hefty bill. No matter what I do to budget (countless excel spreadsheets that I SWEAR I'd maintain every time I start them) there's just so much I'd still like to tap into...
After going to see Bradley Cooper at the Actor's Studio, I decided that perhaps I'd start taking acting classes at Lee Strasburg Theatre Institute again.  Little did I know it would cost me about $2,500 for a nine week session.  Then there's that whole Tennis thing. I mean THANK GD for Central Park Tennis, but in the winter hours the last play is from 3pm-4pm daily.  Equinox got out of control expensive for me to maintain @ $176 a month (still the best gym on the planet!!! Violette Zaki's kickboxing and Ilaria's classes are unbeatable).

I've done the Bikram thing and wish I could still be a member at Bikram Yoga LES ($140/month) and still be able to work out at my current gym, 24 Hour Fitness ($69.99/month)!  Best Bikram spot in all of NYC, & best deal in the hood, by the way; brand new gym, locker room, sauna, equipment, and the classes aren't too bad either.

So "all of the above," is just to maintain a healthy lifestyle...what about wardrobe? Vacation? Homegoods? Dining out? It's tough in this big city to live it up.  But the good news is that it's totally doable!
