The East Village welcomes Bento Burger...the old Marfa space on 2nd Street between Avenue A and 1st Ave.
After Todd's performance, I introduced myself as yael...told him about KicknitNYC and set up an interview on the spot...I can't wait to meet with him and share his words with you.

Why Men Love Women...Sports Illustrated Style!
Since 1996, freshman year @ Hewlett High School, my bff at the time, Meri Brenowitz, now Meri Zwirn taught me that other than the September issue of Vogue, the next best issue is Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Edition...and that was the end of that...from 1996 and on, I've been collecting beautiful tiny bikinis of beautiful women from all over the world.
Granted through history women have always been idolized for their beauty, but from cover girl, Irina Shyak to Kenza Fourati...This Why Men love Women.
I totally get it...and love my girls in this year's Sports Illustrated 2011. They look incredible.
"Awe"some actually.
There are so many girls and it was hard to pick my top few but here they are...and yes, love the suits too.
Everyone should pick up an issue...

V Day Love...
Monday night...February 14th 8:57pm
So there you have it...blogging at the prime romance hour of the prime romantic Hallmark day of the year...and YES! I actually did Tweet Bethenny Frankel from the bathroom of The Four Seasons Restaurant announcing that I was in fact sipping on a fine Veuve Clicquot champagne and that I would follow in her footsteps since her wedding to Jason Hoppy was televised last March in the pool room of The Four Seasons. In fact, I may have called her "Skinnygirl" because I wasn't too sure how to spell her name...regardless, I spent the next 30 minutes back at the bar checking my phone for Bethenny's tweet (because that's normal!??!)

I mean, really...Yael! It's lover's day...no one's tweeting you back about finally making it to oysters and champagne at The Four Seasons.
Walking up the stairs to the main bar area I hear Julian say, "Laura...Ciao...long time no see...how are you beautiful?!"
Julian Niccolini is the one of the managing partners of the Four Seasons Restaurant. Laura knows the some of "the guys" (as she calls'em) at The Four Seasons well for many years through work functions, charities, and simply being part of the NYC's Midtown finance social network...It was time for me to stop feeling flustered and grow up...this is Manhattan!
Backtrack...so I've already typed up this whole official entry to post about Valentines day...it started with one of those, "if you're attached, you're celebrating lover's day....if you're not committed...you're obviously celebrating singles' awareness day talking smack about ex boyfriends or girlfriends and all the while trying to remain positive even though you really can't believe some of the words that are flying out of your mouth"
OK on to the serious business....WHO was St. Valentine? I mean...I get it...Santa is to Christmas as SaintValentine is to Valentines Day?

Well...according to some Catholic sources and The Inernet, I have to tell you that I was a bit disappointed when I discovered who Saint Valentine actually was.
So it goes like this...
Saint or Saint(s) Valentine(s) were actually a group of priests and martyrs...yup! MARTYRS...like Bin Laden? or more like Napoleon? hmmm...they persecuted anyone who was anti-Christ or went against the beliefs of the Church...they basically went out and KILLED anyone who was against the Catholic church (true story I guess)....
They were so dedicated to their GD, that while fighting off these so called "pagans" and "non believers" they fell in battle. It was then said to be that the Saints died for the LOVE of GD...hmmm...
After many years...at some (random) point...or about 1700 years ago, people used to buy each other chocolates and flowers to celebrate the 14th of February...oh...yes...I totally forgot to mention that AFTER St. Valentine and his team of martyrs died for the Love of GD, there was a feast in honor of all of their dedication to loving GD and persecuting anyone who didn't believe what they believed...This feast was called the Feast of St. Valentine. It just so happened to be held on the 14th of February...fast-forward...
Love of GD...love for one another = chocolates, flowers, romance, United States of America, Hallmark, business, forced cheesy love holiday, $$$$$ (why didn't I think of that)???
Do I sound bitter? I hope I don't...Even when I was committed I never celebrated V Day. I just thought it was so colored...so painted...fake.
But, then again...it IS a holiday celebrating the most holy and sacred emotion and phenomenon...LOVE!
At the end of the day, it's the BEST HOLIDAY EVER...when do we celebrate love in the masses?
unfortunately not enough.

Julian approached Laura and I and introduced us to Michael and Alexander. Michael: an attractive Lebanese gentleman, sporting his own luxury label (suite, tie, suspenders, the works), was worldly, successful and a well spoken. Michael was accompanied by Alexander, the tall, thin, attractive Gotham Magazine reporter who was writing a piece on this Lebanese fashion 'mogul.' Alexander and I would have to probably share more stories about living on the Lower East Side and jet setting from the west side to the east side of Manhattan. Alexander: musician & songwriter at heart, bad ass reporter by day. GD I LOVE NEW YORK!!
I was called out on wearing my black rubber swatch watch but then quickly made up for it with my McQueen scull scarf! Although I wasn't gulping down oysters on ice (not a Shellfish or Pork Kind'a Gal) and sipping on Veuve, I realized how much love there actually is out there.

WHAT HE WANTS, WHAT SHE WANTS...
As a single white female living in New York, it's very easy to rack up a hefty bill. No matter what I do to budget (countless excel spreadsheets that I SWEAR I'd maintain every time I start them) there's just so much I'd still like to tap into...
After going to see Bradley Cooper at the Actor's Studio, I decided that perhaps I'd start taking acting classes at Lee Strasburg Theatre Institute again. Little did I know it would cost me about $2,500 for a nine week session. Then there's that whole Tennis thing. I mean THANK GD for Central Park Tennis, but in the winter hours the last play is from 3pm-4pm daily. Equinox got out of control expensive for me to maintain @ $176 a month (still the best gym on the planet!!! Violette Zaki's kickboxing and Ilaria's classes are unbeatable).
I've done the Bikram thing and wish I could still be a member at Bikram Yoga LES ($140/month) and still be able to work out at my current gym, 24 Hour Fitness ($69.99/month)! Best Bikram spot in all of NYC, & best deal in the hood, by the way; brand new gym, locker room, sauna, equipment, and the classes aren't too bad either.
So "all of the above," is just to maintain a healthy lifestyle...what about wardrobe? Vacation? Homegoods? Dining out? It's tough in this big city to live it up. But the good news is that it's totally doable!
And TRUST ME...I'm not making nearly close to six figures a year and I still manage to satisfy my extranious cravings....
Whether it's under the tree or wraped up by the Menorah, when it comes to your holiday wishlist, you mustn't be shy...after all, if you don't ask, you don't get ;-)

Dating Manhattan...I'm totally in love!
Dating Manhattan...I'm totally in love!
We truly do live in one of the best cities in the world...last Thursday,on a beautiful sunny day, while playing hooky from work with my new beau who's a total keeper despite his non-Manhattanite nationality (the office was closed for Veteran's Day and I don't really have the balls to literally play hooky but either way...saying it is way more fly).
It's taken me a while, but we decided to date Manhattan together!
Now don't get me wrong here, it's not that I can't share my true love (NYC) with anyone, it's just that I've never really dated Manhattan with anyone...in fact, I've always enjoyed her all to myself...it's time I share my true love for this fantastic city with someone and play nice in Central Park's Sandbox.
We started our day with an early brunch at my favorite (close to home) neighborhood restaurant, Cafe Mogador...strong coffee and fresh food...amazing hummus, pita with Zatar and their Arabic salad with olive oil, lemon, and parsley...I added Bulgarian Feta (I seriously felt like I was in Tel Aviv)...I usually go to Mogador for Sunday brunch (nothing cures a hangover better than Mogador's fresh squeezed OJ, Hummus, and poached Halumi eggs)! The scene is just as good as the food. with French flying off of the majority's tongues and bits of Hebrew and Italian too. Grungy old school Lower East Side meets Europe's finest...well if I may get into this a literally, it's more like North Africa's finest with Morocco at the top tier!

Getting lost in Paris, Rome, Florence, or Neve Tzedek is amazing...who said you can't do that in NYC too?! Even though I've lived here for most of my life, I still love to stroll the streets of any neighborhood even my own! After experiencing Mogador's love in the late AM, walked through my next favorite hood in the city...Bowery between Houston throough Cooper Square...you walk a little south west of Houston, & BOOM...you're in SOHO...the crossroads between the LES, East Village, NoHo, SoHo and Bleeker's start...The Bowery is simply asking for it...we first stopped at The Cooper Square Hotel (my idea of the PERFECTLY decorated abode), home to Chef Scott Conant’s Faustina, I secretly pretended I was walking into my own apartment (shhh don't tell anyone I still play pretend...).
We sat on the benches outside of Keith McNally's bakery and bistro, Balthazar (which by the way, can NEVER GET OLD)...we manged on Tuna Tartar (topped with wasabi fish roe & spicy wasabi mustard mayo) at Delicatessen's...need I mention the mid-day drinking or is that a given? We finally made it back to Avenue A & Houston.
Either I'm in love or simply in love with Manhattan but I can't get enough of her and the wonderful things she has to offer...and yes, despite the prefix, Manhattan is a woman...a deep, intricate, inspiring, cold (at times), driven, sexy, beautiful, passionate city that's home to everyone and anyone. Whether straight, gay, tall, short, fat, thin, weird, straight laced and dry, urban, country, foreign, rich, broke (more stylish way of saying poor), funny, retarded, idiotic, smart, whatever....you name it...ANYONE can date Manhattan!

What's in Your Labor Day Weekend Bag?
As we bid summer good bye next weekend, we mustn’t leave behind the key items that helped us make it through the hottest months of the year.
Whether BBQ’ing in the suburbs, beaching and boating at Martha’s Vineyard, or mingling in the Hamptons, you could only play the part if you’re prepared for the role. Our Labor Day weekend must haves are products I use year round and always take up prime space in my weekend or gym bag.
The next thing on my list is the (oh so popular) straw fedora. Who said you can’t hide from UV rays and look cool doing it? I purchased my fedora for $10 on St. Mark’s Place in the Village. They usually sell for $15 but you can always bargain them down. This hat has been quite the popular item in the South of France as well as all over the Mediterranean and the US.
So now that we’re totally rock’n, we really should have put this as our #1 under the UV category (oops). While your Ray Bans or Fedora can’t entirely protect you from dangerous UV rays, you can lather on that SPF for a full body experience. I like to use Yes To Carrots Hydrating Body Lotion with SPF 30.
It’s not too thick, is 94.7% natural and can be used as a regular moisturizer. I also like to use Jergens natural GLOW firming body lotion to help keep my tan lasting longer. It now has 50% more antioxidants in an already powerful, Vitamin E-infused formula to keep your skin looking healthy and glowing 2x longer than most of the other self tanners I’ve used.
While playing safe under the sun, you always want to sport the perfect getup. Whether in your swimsuit, cover up, romper or denim cut offs, there are certain costumes (as I would like to call them), that simply couldn’t go un-garnished. One of my all time favorite outfit toppers is a scarf. Yes, you read me right…even in the summer you could wear a light cotton gauze, linen or jersey scarf. I saved up for Alexander McQueen’s JERSEY SKULL SCARF. It’s perfect with any white simple t-shirt or ‘beater’ with jeans or cutoff denim shorts, maxi dresses, or swimsuits…the list goes on. Another perfect outfit garnish is jewelry. Though bikinis and bangles may go well together, always be careful not to over accessorize (which we sometimes tend to do, especially when it comes to jewelry). R U VAIN’s hammered silver bangles are perfectly understated enough to wear on the beach or at the pool. And though you’re stacking several bangles, you could never have too much of a good thing!
With Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts as today’s poster children for Juvederm and Collagen, there’s no wonder lip plumpers are on the rise like never before! Be careful though, you don’t want to end up looking like Lindsey Lohan. Keep it simple; the more natural, the better. I’ve used lip plumpers that make your lips sting and irritate them so much that they swell up for 10 minutes (so yes, they temporarily work). However, there are two lip treatments I (literally) swear by and which actually work. Lip Fusion and Lip Fusion XL. Lip Fusion comes in different shades and doesn’t irritate your lips. Both Lip Fusion and Lip Fusion XL plump your lips and moisturize them at the same time. Lip Fusion XL is a lip ‘treatment’ that’s applied in the AM and PM over an extended period of time. Though $50.00 is a little steep for a lip plumping treatment, it beats the pain of Juvederm and having to pay over $1,000 and the risk of coming out like Donald Duck. You can read more on the technology of Lip Fusion XL on the website and buy their products at Sephora or Ulta…it comes highly recommended!
So now that we’re kick’n it in style and totally playing the part, it’s time to party! Raise a glass, love yourself, tell your friends they’re beautiful, and kiss the summer goodbye the right way.

So now that we’re totally rock’n, we really should have put this as our #1 under the UV category (oops). While your Ray Bans or Fedora can’t entirely protect you from dangerous UV rays, you can lather on that SPF for a full body experience. I like to use Yes To Carrots Hydrating Body Lotion with SPF 30.

Another perfect outfit garnish is jewelry. Though bikinis and bangles may go well together, always be careful not to over accessorize (which we sometimes tend to do, especially when it comes to jewelry). R U VAIN’s hammered silver bangles are perfectly understated enough to wear on the beach or at the pool. And though you’re stacking several bangles, you could never have too much of a good thing!
