If you’ve ever walked past the American Apparel ® on E Houston Street in NYC’s East Village, you’d notice the hipster clan gathered outside smoking stoges, eating Mr. Softy ice cream, or simply kick’n it on the benches outside this International Cotton Shop.

This uber “Made in America” establishment is usually open till 11PM on weekdays and as late as midnight on the weekend. There is no bar or kitchen, rather super cute employees (sporting 100% American Apparel ®) and what sounds like a live DJ is probably one of the employees’ iPod!

This past Saturday night, while en route to Keith McNally’s Pulino up the street on the corner of Houston & Bowery, I couldn’t help but notice the young skinny boys hiding behind their American Apparel ® “Legalize Gay” t-shirts (http://store.americanapparel.net/2001lg.html), 2001LG Legalize Gay T-Shirt $17.00. I asked one of the pretty boys “hey man, what’s going on inside?!”
He answered, “buy one get one…you know…for your friend or partner?”
He smiled at me through his big green eyes and bright teal Legalize Gay T-shirt…I smiled back and walked in…

Tribe Called Quest was blaring through the store speakers and I was instantly in a good mood. I felt so downtown…I can’t really explain the feelings…but having my primary residence in the heart (or armpit) of the East Village, I simply FELT 'downtown' from the inside out.

Walking around the store, I noticed that every item is accompanied by a picture of it on a model.

Because I absolutely LOVED what I saw and embraced my downtown feeling in my stomach…I figured, why not promote American Apparel ®on Kicknitnyc.blogspot.com?!!

I approached the pretty (young) salesgirls and told them about my blog. I asked them if I could promote the store and write about my experience. I also told them that I would link all the top selling items for Summer 2010 to their website!
